CG Nichols Builders is located just off the green in the historic village of Quechee,
Vermont.
The office is situated next to Simon Pierce glass blowing shop and restaurant and
the Quechee Club Golf course. This central location allows easy access to building
in the Upper Valley region of Vermont and New Hampshire.
CG Nichols Builders was started in 1991. Even before Chris began his business, Chris
drew upon the experiences of his father in real estate and development. Before graduating
from college, Chris and his sister, Hannah, bought, assessed and implemented
improvements, and then sold several pieces of land for profit. He started completing
renovation projects that ranged from minor to complete house remodels. From 1991 - 1996 he enhanced
our experience in housing remodels and developed a keen knowledge of historic building.
Throughout 1993 - 1995 Chris completed several significant restorations of historical
homes in Windsor county. Starting in 1997 he completely renovated a late 18th century
Cape in Norwich Vermont. During the mid 1990s Chris began construction on new houses
as well. It was this period of overlap between renovation of historic houses and
building new that led him to find Mike Connor at Connor Homes, who was already practicing
the art of building the new old house. Chris became Connor Homes first designated
outside contractor and began a long lasting successful relationship that still flourishes
today. To date, CG Nichols has built more than 20 Connor designed panelized homes.
While a significant portion of his work has been with Connor Homes, he has continued
to mix in other custom projects.
Chris grew up in Pomfret, Vermont with an older sister, Hannah and younger brother,
Parker on Tom White Hill Farm. At varying times in history, Tom White Hill Farm
had been an active sheep farm, potato farm, and had even been the site of a local
horse racing track. Growing up in an environment with natural beauty and old new
england architecture, Chris acquired an appreciation for good and practical building
design. Chris attended the University of Vermont and received a Bachelors of Arts
degree and studied geography. While attending UVM, Chris embarked on a semester
in the Rocky Mountains with the Outdoor National Leadership School (NOLS). This
3-month period in small intense outdoor groups helped to form his appreciation for
group dynamics in order to successfully achieve your goals. After graduation, Chris
attended the UVM Historic Preservation Summer Institute. Having graduating from
the summer institute, Chris headed back out to the Rocky Mountains and lived in
Jackson Hole, Wyoming. While out west, Chris worked as a carpenter and a ski instructor
for the physically challenged. After 3 years in Wyoming, Chris returned to Vermont
to sell residential real estate and embark on his new construction business. While
his experience selling real estate was a valued period of his professional career,
it became apparent that he gravitated to the hands on, tangible, long lasting art of
building custom homes.
